The Tracker

Out before sunrise in well-below-freezing temperatures. We were attempting to find fresh polar bear tracks, when we came upon this beautiful scene. We not only found recent signs of bear activity, but we found that a fox had beat us to it. It had recently been tracking the bear, and I was confused by this, as I thought it would be the other way around. I asked our expert guide to explain further. Apparently, it’s common for a fox to follow polar bears in the hope of being able to scavenge off a recent meal. We took the early morning to enjoy our time in this special place, and to think about how difficult life can be in the wilderness.
