Solitude

This is one of my favorite places to spend time. The only things you’ll hear there are the wind, maybe a storm rolling in, and the birds flying by…that’s it. It requires four-wheel drive and a bit of navigation to get here, or by foot with plenty of water and rations for several days. I feel at peace when I’m here, free from the distractions of work and city life. I’m free to think about the bigger questions in life or simply unplug and renew. I love the desert for its restorative scenes like this, with stunning sunrises and sunsets, as well as all the incredible rock formations and colors. In a way, seeing what thousands of years of erosion has done to create these beautiful rock formations makes me realize that my entire existence is insignificant in comparison. It sounds nihilistic to say, yet I find peace in it. I feel it’s a privilege to get to experience the solitude of this place, and I hope I’m able to share some of that peace with you through this image.
